Untitled (lousy Blogger API)
I nearly gave up on this Web log (again), this time for the simple reason that I couldn’t stand the Blogger Web interface and WYSIWYG editor. My goal was to get this thing off of Blogger/FTP and onto Plone running the Quills Web log Product (an undertaking not without its own challenges, but for me a fairly direct route to text composition nirvana in Restructured Text using my own external editor outside the browser).
But then I came across BloGTK, a Web log posting tool for Linux, and started to think that maybe Blogger might work out after all, at least temporarily–it makes use of Blogger’s API and alows me to avoid the Web browser entirely. Probably the biggest drawback is that it doesn’t allow me to post a title (that’s missing from the old Blogger API, which has been replaced by the new Atom API, which apparently is emerging as a standard for Web log communications).
This post is the first that I’ve done with this tool, and it was a remarkably painless experience. A version 2 of this fine product which appears to involve complete blog management rather than just posting ability is in the works, though not very actively. Read more here.
Now if can just get it to use Restructured Text–I wonder if any other users of this fine Open Source project would be interested in that enhancement.
